Clean up OUR PARKS!

Our old home as it is now, at night.

Right now the parks where we lived and worked for the first five weeks of our Occupation are roped off with yellow police tape behind a fence topped with barbed wire. These pictures were made at the Vigil the night of November 19, when we gathered to honor the space where we first met each other as a movement.

However on Wednesday, November 23, starting at 8:30 a.m., Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a volunteer cleanup. We can turn out in large numbers. It’s a chance to restore our parks and to build good will with the public by raking leaves and preparing the two parks for reseeding. We can put our bodies where our environmental principles are.

During the vigil a week after eviction.

We can be stewards of the land and meet each other again in the parks where we first met to work together. We can wear 99% buttons. We can make badges or pin signs to our jackets. We can be visible as occupiers and volunteers in service to our parks. Yes we can.

Dress for the weather and expect wet, muddy conditions. Volunteers can work two hours, four hours, or all day. You must RSVP though as leaves are limited! All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. To RSVP or for questions, contact Steve at 503-823-5121or steve.pixley@portlandoregon.gov
